All kids can...create!

Friday, March 14, 2008 - Three children from Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School submitted artwork to the National VSA arts/CVS Pharmacy program All Kids Can. The program gives children the opportunity to have their artwork considered for display in an exhibition in Washington D.C. during May 2008.

Second grader, Annika (left), says that when she paints she is "doing something of what [she] loves." The painting she submitted to All Kids Can...CREATE! (right) is of "a girl with many animals around her, and she is happy about that." Photo of contest participant, Annika Annika's artwork depicting a girl outside in the sun
12 year old Kaaron (left) created a three-dimensional mask (right) from construction paper which he submitted to All Kids Can...CREATE! Kaaron enjoyed creating this mask in his I Can Do That! class because "art is something [he] doesn't get to do very much." For his mask, Kaaron "had the most fun creating the bandana." photo of CREATE! participant, Kaaron Kaaron's mask made from black construction paper and taffeta hair
Alice (right) loves the painting she submitted to All Kids Can...CREATE! (left) because "all [her] favorite things are in [it]--like colors and sunshine." She also says, "Art makes me feel like I'm someone special. My art makes people happy." photo of CREATE! participant, Alice Alice's watercolor painting depicting a purple octopus and other figures

In April, Very Special Arts California will select two artworks to send to the VSA arts home office for final selection. There, artwork from each state will be selected for the exhibition which will serve as the focal point of the annual VSA arts Start with the Arts Family Festival. Of the total artists selected for the exhibition, 10 artists will be invited as guests for the opening reception on Capitol Hill.
