I Can Do That! Fall 2006

Fall 2006 - The Fall 2006 I Can Do That! program brought the Arts to 1,200 students in Sacramento City Unified School District, including Aztec dance, Hip Hop dance, multi-media visual arts, percussion, drawing and painting, and much more! The fall/winter Very Special Arts Festival took place at the CSUS University Union, February 9, 2007. See highlights from the program below...

California State University Sacramento - Community Transition Program

Students in the CSUS Community Transition program studied Hip Hop dance with professional dancer Alice Twill. In the photos below, the students are practicing for their performance at the 2007 Lenaea Festival.

Freeport Elementary School

Freeport Elementary students created an array of multi-media artworks under the direction of professional artist Tina Favela.

Jedediah Smith Elementary School

Cartoonist Pat Dawson taught Jedediah Smith Elementary students how to draw comics. For their final project, students wrote and illustrated a story in which they portrayed themselves as a superhero.

A.M. Winn Elementary School

A.M. Winn elementary school students practiced drumbeats on the floor of their classroom under direction of percussionist Kevin Goings. Drumming taught the children many skills including rythym, sequencing, and how to follow directions.

Sutter Middle School

Professional artist Christy Savage taught Sutter middle-schoolers to draw and paint from their imagination, oftentimes using music as a way of relaxing and focusing the students.

Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School

Professional artist Christopher Cook used unconventional methods to teach Leonardo da Vinci School students how to create sculptures and vessels out of clay. Students created vases with their shoes and even learned to throw pots on a potting wheel.
