I Can Do That! Fall 2007

Fall 2007 - Twenty-one school sites participated in I Can Do That! during Fall 2007. Artistic disciplines taught included Hip Hop dance, ceramics, Salsa Dance, multi-media visual arts, cartooning, break-dance, and watercolor. The program began in October with a two-hour training session for teachers and artists which introduced the program and provided ability awareness training. The program concluded January 25, 2008 with the Very Special Festival of the Arts at California State University Sacramento (CSUS) where each student participant either displayed artwork or performed for audience members.

Highlights from I Can Do That! Fall 2007:

Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School

Students from Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School learned how to Hip Hop dance with the help of professional dancer Alice Twilla.

The students performed once again on the University Union stage for attendees of the California State University Sacramento Arts Resource Fair (above).

Collis P. Huntington Elementary School

Under the direction of professional artist Tina Favela, second grade students at C.P. Huntington (below) learned how to create art out of a variety of different materials including construction paper, tissue paper, paint, and ceramic. The students' artwork was displayed at the Winter Very Special Arts Festival.

Caroline Wenzel Elementary School

Professional dancer Sandra DiAmicis brought the art of Salsa to students at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School. The students learned about the history of Salsa dancing, Salsa music, and even created their own Salsa dancing costumes (top right) for their performance at the Winter Very Special Arts Festival.
