I Can Do That! Spring 2007

Spring 2007 - This Spring 1,700 I Can Do That! students worked with professional artists to create artworks and performances such as oil pastel drawings of jungle scenes, theatre arts productions, life-sized superhero portraits, large-scale collaborative watercolor pieces, Hip Hop dances, and still life paintings in watercolor and dyed all-purpose glue. Highlights from I Can Do That! Spring 2007:

Hubert Bancroft Elementary School

Professional artist Dixie Laws taught Hubert Bancroft Elementary School students the art of drawing and painting this spring. Students worked with watercolor, construction paper, crayons, and other materials to create both abstract artworks and pieces that represent scenes from real life. The artworks were shown at Raley's Cafe in June 2007 and the 21st annual Spring Very Special Arts Festival at Coloma Community Center, May 18, 2007.

Alice Birney Elementary School & Collis P. Huntington Elementary School

This spring students from both Alice Birney and C.P. Huntington Elementary School worked with professional artist Joshua Collver to create collaborative works of art in watercolor and pen and ink. The students were taken through a step-by-step process through which they learned to draw and then paint natural objects (i.e. birds, bugs, flowers, leaves, etc.) in great detail. Their creations were combined on large pieces of high quality watercolor paper to depict somewhat fantastical scenes from nature. The large pieces were shown at Sierra Health Foundation October 2007 through January 2008 and the 21st annual Spring Very Special Arts Festival at Coloma Community Center, May 18, 2007.
