All kids can...create! 2009 Calendar

VSA arts and CVS Caremark All Kids Can created the 2009 Calendar to share artwork from the 2008 All Kids Can…CREATE! program. The calendar features images by young artists with disabilities from around the country.

Twelve-year-old Kaaron (left), created a three-dimensional mask (right) from construction paper which is featured for the month of October in the calendar. Kaaron enjoyed creating this mask in his I Can Do That! class because "art is something [he] doesn't get to do very much." Kaaron "had the most fun creating the bandana" on his mask.

VSA arts and CVS Caremark All Kids Can share a mutual commitment to improving the lives and learning of children with disabilities. To this end, they have joined together in a comprehensive national campaign to expand arts-based programming for all children through a nationwide call for art, artist-residencies, and community events.

Through the All Kids Can… CREATE! call for art, children were encouraged to explore new activities, rethink their perceptions, and discover themselves as artists. Children from across the country responded to the call and submitted their artwork. The art featured within the 2009 calendar is part of the national exhibition that debuted in Washington, D.C., and is currently on tour around the country.

Check out the National VSA arts website www.vsarts.org for more information and an online version of the exhibition that can be shared.

Kaaron was featured as VSA arts of California's Artist of the Month for July 2008. Check out his page at www.vsacalifornia.org/Kaaron.php
