I Can Do That! 22nd annual Spring Very Special Festival of the Arts

Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Coloma community Center

VSA arts of California at Sacramento (VSAS), in association with Sacramento City Unified School District and City of Sacramento Neighborhood Services Department, presented the 22nd annual Spring Very Special Festival of the Arts Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Coloma community Center.

On the indoor stage, emcee John E. Lee introduced Hip Hop dancers from CSUS Transistion Program and John Sloat, Jed Smith, Caroline Wenzel, Lisbon, Elder Creek, and James Marshall Elementary Schools (professional dancer Alice Twilla); breakdancers from Rosemont High, A. M. Winn, Ethel Phillips and Woodbine Elementary Schools (professional dancer Vince Horiuchi); drummers from Leonardo da Vinci School (professional drummer Kevin Goings); and interpretive jazz dancers from Sacramento City College Transition Program (professional dancer Trinidad Stassi).

Greg King emceed the outdoor stage for the Leonardo da Vinci Blues Band (professional musician Ned Hammad), Fern Bacon Middle School puppeteers (professional artist Olivia Huff), Leonardo da Vinci School theatre artists (professional theatre artist Shakiri Hudson), and Hip Hop dancers from John F. Kennedy and Luther Burbank High Schools (professional artist Alice Twilla).

The visual art show included illustrations by Mark Twain Elementary and Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School students (professional artist Pat Dawson); ceramics and paintings by Bowling Green Elementary and Sutter Middle students (professional artist Eva Zunkeler); paintings and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School, Lisbon, and Alice Birney Elementary students (professional artist Julie Madden); paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Isador Cohen Pre-K students (professional artist Ramona Soto) and Ethel I. Baker Elementary students (professional artist Walter Cervantes).

Students also enjoyed over 30 funshops, including a large canvas cooperative mural, sidewalk chalk art, wishing trees, self-portrait drawing, pinwheel making, and much more.
