Arts Alive!: Saturday, August 5, 2005
Very Special Arts Sacramento took a group of students from the Sacramento City College Transition Program to see a performance of Once on This Island at California Musical Theatre.
The first year's accomplishments through Arts Alive! gained free admission to CMT's summer production of Once on This Island for SCC students.
Program: Arts Alive! works to improve cultural access within the Sacramento community. The program strives to:
1) enable children and adults with disabilities to attend high-quality community visual art shows and performances;
2) integrate people of all abilities in Very Special Arts groups attending art shows and performances;
3) network with Sacramento's Arts organizations and conduct accessibility site surveys to learn the extent of their physical and programmatic access services (e.g. audio
description, ASL interpretation, or live captioning services for arts performances or
exhibits); and
4) utilize Arts Alive! as a role-model program for other communities and partnerships
within California (e.g. Orange County College of Optometry).
