February 21, 2006: Two California artists chosen to participate in national VSA arts international call for children's art . . .

National VSA arts once again invited its affiliates to participate in an international call for children's art which, this year, is entitled "A View From My Window." Two pieces of the best artwork from two young California artists were chosen to be entered in the contest. In March of 2006, national VSA arts will select one artist per state and country to exhibit in Washington, D.C. at Union Station during the month of June. Five artist representatives from the United States will be guests for the opening of the exhibit at Union Station and reception on Capitol Hill. One of last year's contest winners was McKinleyville, California resident and VSAS Artshift program participant, Rachael Wilson (see below: Archives June 2005). This year artists Brianna Simpson of Stockton and Jaclyn Schmidt of Antioch have been chosen to particpate in the call for art.

Brianna Simpson poses next to her painting "Flowers in a Window." Brianna created the painting at Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California during her participation in VSAS's Artshift program.

Jaclyn Schmidt holds her untitled painting of Lake Hawley in the Sierra Mountains. Jaclyn's painting represents the view from her cabin window at Camp Wamp, a camp for children with disabilities.
