What's New

Congratulations, Robert!: Wednesday, March 28, 2007
Robert Bernal, a very special artist from Sacramento, has been chosen as one of Twelve international winners in National VSAarts ArtLink program. Robert’s artwork will be on display at the Start With The Arts Festival, June 4-28, in Union Station, Washington, D. C. Additionally, National VSAarts will fly Robert and his mother, Anna, to Washington, D. C., where Robert and the other contest winners will be honored at a Congressional reception on June 6.

ArtLink, an international cultural exchange program in its sixth year, paired 51 U.S. classrooms with their global counterparts last November. Students aged 7-14 created visual arts projects that were exchanged with an international partner classroom. One piece of artwork by a student in each classroom was selected to join the exhibition at the festival.

Dave Komar---a special education teacher at Leonardo da Vinci School in Sacramento---and his class represented VSAarts of California in ArtLink 2006-2007. The ArtLink program emphasizes diversity and provides an opportunity for students to appreciate other cultures. Art becomes the bridge to allow students to share their personal experiences and create new friendships. “Culture Scope: Focusing in on My Life” is this year’s theme.
